Year 4

Hope Class (Mr Redman) and Edale Class (Mr Staniford) welcome you to their class page.

Please read the Year 4 newsletter to find out everything your child will be learning this term.

Harvest Festival at St Peter's Church

Our brilliant Year 4 children attended church to take part in St Peter's church and FEJS Harvest Festival. The readers and actors were brilliant and the singing was loud and clear with all the children playing their part. For many of the children it was their first visit to St Peter's church and they are eager to return to spend some time exploring the fabulous building and grounds. Thankyou to everyone who helped out.

Tunstead Quarry Trip

This week our children greatly enjoyed their trip to Tunstead Quarry. Quarrying is a vital contributor to the High Peak in terms of jobs , resources and finance and has been popular in this area for over a hundred years. The children were able to find out about the quarry, its impact locally and Edale class were able to watch a blast whilst Hope were able to explore the huge dumper trucks including going inside the cab. Everyone had a great time.

Science - Chocolate Rocks!

This week in Science we have been learning about the formation of different rocks. The children really enjoyed finding out how Metamorphic, Sedimentary and Igneous rocks are formed. They conducted an experiment using chocolate which they all found both interesting and delicious!

When we were in year 3...

Roald Dahl Day

The children dressed up to celebrate their favourite characters and how his many books continue to encourage an early love of reading.

Reading for Purpose

A few photos of our children enjoying their reading lessons. Here they are reading for purpose and finding synonyms for given words.

Autumn Watch

Year 3 went on a trip to Grinlow Woods as part of their topic ‘Autumn Watch’. They identified trees by looking at leaves, looked at the different fruits from the trees, searched for insects and listened and identified all the different sounds they heard.

Christingle

Members of St Peter's congregation came into school and shared the meaning of a Christingle orange which is used during advent and then helped the children in making their very own Christingle orange.

Egyptian Topic Afternoon

Year 3 hosted an Egyptian event to showcase their topic work. It was great to see so many families attending to find out and take part in their child's learning.

Pooles Cavern Trip

Year 3 went on a trip to Pooles Cavern to find out about it's history and what rock formations it contained. This linked in with their Early Britain topic.
